RHONJ Manzo’s take Punta Cana by Storm: Legal Documents Reveal

In February, 2011, RHONJ travelled to Punta Cana for some fun in the sun that was to be shown in Season 3.  But on February 23, 2011, their fun was abruptly interrupted by the champagne spray heard round the world.

The RHONJ were partying and filming at the Moon Bar located at the Hard Rock Resort in Punta Cana, Domenican Republic.

The Moon Bar is where the alleged confrontation took place.

At approximately 1:15 am, when Teresa Giudice opened a bottle of champagne,  the spray allegedly landed on Yolanda Martinez causing her “eye irritation and discomfort.” When Ms. Martinez’ son in law, Adolfo Arreola and his cousin Jason Gomez confronted the cast, the resulting confrontation became the basis for the following lawsuit.

Bravo & Sirens Media were sued because they allegedly:

encourage, promote and demand that the cast of RHONJ engage in verbal and physical conflict with one another and members of the public, creating a culture, climate and/or atmosphere of confrontation, hostility and violence in order to attract viewers

Paragraph 26.

The Complaint alleges that while Arreola tended to Martinez, the cast and crew, physically attacked him. Paragraph 36. When Arreola’s cousin, Jason Gomez, ran to his aid:

members of the the cast and crew of the RHONJ, without provocation, brutally and savagely beat, kicked, punched, scratched, jumped on and smashed glass on the heads of Arreola and Gomez causing them to sustain severe pain and suffering and bodily injuries

Paragraph 38.

As if the incident wasn’t bizarre enough, the allegations move into crazy crazy crazy. . .

The Complaint alleges that Arreola and his family were transported to the police station where they were detained and denied medical attention. They were forced to sign settlement agreements and releases containing confidentiality clauses.  Arreola and Gomez allege that they were under “great duress, coercion and physical and emotional stress” when they signed the agreements. They claimed that they waived their rights because they feared for their safety.

As a result of the alleged coercion, Arreola and Gomez ask the Court to strike the settlement agreement so they can proceed with their personal injury suit against the named Defendants Teresa Giudice, Joe Giudice, Albert Manzo, Christopher Manzo, Greg Bennett, Albert Manzo III, Caroline Claire Laurita Manzo, Lauren Manzo, Sirens Media, Bravo Media.

  3. Pixie says:

    Looking forward to it!!

I’ve corresponded w/a reporter in Chicago a few times about this story from the victims hometown point of view. I inquired about a “settlement” b/c the Manzo-Lauritas have a way of paying money to shush things up (blk was a prime example). Will look forward to the information.

  5. Debbie says:

Who forced them to sign it? Did the cops play a role?
Do you have the whole document for us to see?

I am NO fan of the Manzos, but I think the Arreoloa and Gomez version sounds a little off to me. While I make no claims of direct knowledge, the rumors I read of sound much more plausible. I read that Teresa popped a champagne bottle, and a woman sitting nearby was sprayed. An argument ensued with the Arreoloa and Gomez guy, and one of them hit Teresa. This sparked a huge fight with the men, and the A & G guys were beaten pretty badly. As jerky as they act, I really don’t think these guys beat the crap out of A & G as they dabbed their mother-in-laws eyes! They probably did sign a settlement for a little bit of cash, came home, then realized they should have held out for more.

I totally agree with you @ LifeIsGood!!! EXACTLY what I think happenned as well. Well put, and love, love, love (as Teresa says lol) this site!!!

    • lemonmarabou says:

and I think Arreoloa and Gomez being cops they thought they can do whatever they want and they are untouchable

    • FauxReality says:

Agreed. Arreola is a University cop who should have known better. His cousin Gomez is a plumber. The current question is whether there is any footage of the incident.

      • Faux-there must have been someone there who recorded the fight on their cellphone. Have you checked YouTube for anything? There is a recording somewhere.Everyone records things now-that’s why no one can get away with crap like they used to. Well done article as usual!

        • FauxReality says:

I think between the crew and the Dominican Republic officials, they swept the place clean before day break.

          • Scary to think that Bravo has that kind of superpower. I mean it! Crikey, if that were me, I would NOT be held silent … at all. Unless, FR, there was a real threat to keep silent? Any potential knowledge? Thanks for your hard work, and if you cannot answer this, please know I understand completely.

Hey There. I found your blog using msn. This is an extremely well written article. I’ll make sure to bookmark it and return to read more of your useful info. Thanks for the post. I’ll certainly comeback.

I noticed that the Laurita’s, Chris & Jaq, the Wakiles and the Gorgas were not mentioned in the lawsuit. Where they on this trip and if yes where were they during the fight? I believe if Joe Gorgas was there he would have been involved regarding his sister. I guess for the others this is a classic case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. The only one I feel sorry for is Greg Bennett. He is not even a family member and he’s getting sued with the rest of them.

  9. SaturnsKiss says:

I truly believe that Punta Cana is the reason for the about face of Caroline and Jacqueline, they just can’t mention it. So they pretend to be upset about the cookbook comment and tabloids. They are pissed that their precious boys were arrested. I suppose they lost some business deals because of it (remember Jaq & Caro have said that T messed with their business). They can’t talk about it, so they have jumped on Melissa’s band wagon. I also think this is part of the reason that Andy Cohen and Bravo seem to be against her, too. There is much more to this story than we know.

    • cns says:

Amen! The cookbook is a none issue. It’s this lawsuit. It had to be a very bad fight if Bravo won’t even show it. It’s not like they don’t already have a suicide under their belt. This would also explain the so called “bad edit” that the Giudices are getting. Bravo has Teresa between a rock and a hard place because of this. When the mainstream public gets ahold of this info it will be bad for the whole HW’s franchise.

I can’t move..I have been reading this blog for 5 hrs. straight..at least..without a break. lol.. I just discovered this today..I finally got that life I needed to get..:)
But I Hate myself! I have been a Teresa basher and Melissa was the victim..wtf? I had it so wrong and feel like I’ve been disloyal to a friend. I am so mad I do not want to watch it this season..But nooo, I’m going to watch it but this time I won’t be fooled! Teresa might get a spinoff: ‘Nymph Does New Jersey’. Course I was right on about Jax, she wears her nutso. btw, I always made comments to my friends how ugly her house was decorated compared to the others..hmm and what an insight! you’re right T and J’s scenes are in the closet..wth?
